FAQ

The questions we get most.

Twenty years' worth of 'wait, one more thing —' answered in one place.

Getting started

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes — every new client gets one. It's the single biggest predictor of a smooth first stay. Book one any day of the week — weekdays, evenings, or weekends.

How far in advance should I book?

Holidays: 6–8 weeks ahead. Summer travel (June–August): 2–4 weeks. Normal weeks: a few days is usually fine. Earlier is always safer.

Do you require a deposit?

A 25% deposit holds stays of 7+ nights and any holiday week. It's applied to your final bill. Shorter non-holiday stays don't require a deposit.

How do I actually book a stay?

Call or use the contact form. We confirm dates, send a short intake form, and you're set. No app, no portal, no account creation.

What's included

Are you really cage-free?

Yes. No crates required. Dogs have run of the main floor and the fenced yard, and they sleep where they're most comfortable — usually a couch or the floor near our bedroom.

Do you charge extra for medication?

No. Pills, eye drops, ear drops, and injections (including insulin) are all included at no extra charge.

What about special diets?

No problem — bring the food you already feed, with portions, and we follow your routine exactly. Raw, prescription, homemade — we've handled all of it.

Do you do pickup and delivery?

Yes, across Metro Denver — flat $25 each way within 25 miles. Free in our immediate Aurora neighborhood (~3 miles).

Will my dog meet other dogs?

Most stays include 1–3 other dogs at a time, carefully matched. If your dog prefers solo, we accommodate — and you're never charged extra for it.

Do you board on holidays?

Yes, at standard rates (no surge). Holiday weeks fill up fastest — book 6–8 weeks out.

Fit & safety

What size dogs do you accept?

Dogs under 100 lbs of most breeds. Fit matters more than size — we walk through it on the consultation.

Do you take puppies?

Yes, once they've started vaccinations (typically 12+ weeks). We do extra check-ins, more frequent yard breaks, and we keep a careful eye on socialization with our resident adult dogs.

Do you take reactive or anxious dogs?

Often, yes — depending on the specific trigger. We've worked with leash-reactive, sound-sensitive, and rescue dogs with separation anxiety. The consultation tells us if we're a fit.

What if my dog doesn't get along with others?

We have a private sleeping area and can keep your dog separated from our resident dogs. We'll be honest if that's not realistic for the length of stay you need.

Do you require vaccinations?

Yes — current rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Bring the records to the consultation. We accept titer test results in some cases.

What happens in an emergency?

We have established relationships with three Aurora vets and a 24-hour ER clinic. You're called immediately, and we don't move forward without your input unless life is at stake.

Communication & day-to-day

How often will I hear from you?

At least one photo and a short text per day, plus an arrival note on drop-off day. Anxious flyers or first-timers get two updates daily — just ask.

Can I check in during the stay?

Of course — text or call any time. We'll always get back to you the same day, usually within an hour.

Can I see my dog during the stay?

Drop-ins are usually fine — just call ahead. Some dogs settle better without the visit; we'll be honest about what we see.

What's the daily routine?

Morning walk or yard, breakfast + meds, midday rest, afternoon yard or walk, dinner + meds, evening calm-down, last potty break before bed. See the schedule on the Our Home page.

What if my flight is delayed?

Tell us and stop worrying. We have a 2-hour late-pickup grace at no charge, and we'll figure out the rest. Your dog isn't going anywhere stressful.

Money

How do you accept payment?

Cash, check, Zelle, or Venmo at pickup. We don't store cards.

Do you have discounts?

Yes — automatic 10% off stays of 7+ nights, 15% off stays of 14+ nights, and a multi-dog discount. Plus a free night for every successful referral.

What's your cancellation policy?

Cancel a non-holiday stay any time without penalty. Holiday deposits are refundable up to 14 days out.

Do you require a service contract?

We use a one-page intake/release form on first stay. No long-term commitments, no membership fees.

Don't see your question?

We'd rather answer it on the phone than type a paragraph. Call or send us a note.
